![]() ![]() ![]() If you are wanting a powerful GPU (more powerful than the integrated one anyways) you're better off buying a standard CPU-only CPU and a more powerful discrete GPU to go with it. This doesn't serve much purpose on a desktop system as you can unplug the screen. PRIME lets you offload rendering from one card to another, so your dual-GPU laptop can render games on the dedicated high performance GPU while displaying the output on a screen connected to the integrated GPU. The open source Radeon driver doesn't support CrossFireX (which is basically what dual-GPU in a desktop system would be used for) but it does support DRI PRIME. Maybe it works better on newer systems, maybe it doesn't, but that's my experience with it (on a dual 5870 system, a 6550D APU system, and a 7660G/7730M dual-GPU laptop). Crashing, graphical glitching, issues logging out and back in, and text mode low resolution are just some of the issues that abomination of a driver will cause you. I avoid them like the plague, because every time I put them on my PC it acts sick.
